(1) Plants have consciousness, yet they are still eaten. If you’re going to use that reason, shouldn’t you be a fruitarian?
(2) Organic, grass-fed, free-roaming meat doesn’t support mega-farms or the Big Ag industry. The animal doesn’t face the same deprivations in normal farming conditions.
(3) Aboriginal peoples ate meat still. They honored the spirit of the animal and used every part of the animal, something we could easily do.
(4) Health claims are generally false. Soy, the biggest substitution in Vegan/vegetarian meals, is horrible for your body and digestive track. Potatoes, peas, corn, beans, peanuts, and grains make up a good portion of the rest of a Vegan/vegetarian’s diet. They are full of anti-nutrients and are starches that spike blood sugar and insulin levels, almost immediately being stored as fat.
1) Source? I mean this is complete and utter bull-shit, but if you can show me actual proof that this is true you might have the smallest foundation of an argument.
2) True, but they make up a remarkably small portion of the market and, therefor, are not really doing much to make an impact on the big farms. But let’s not forget that no matter how comfortably something or someone lived, you are still stealing what is there for their young (milk), stealing what is there to help them regain nutrients lost when laying eggs (eggs, duh), forcing them to do what YOU want them to do, and eventually murdering them. Saying that someone lived a happy, healthy life is no excuse to take it away from them.
3) The problem lies not with fringe tribes that amount to a fraction of a percent of the human population, the problem lies with the vast majority of human kind thinking it’s OK to slaughter billions of animals a year just to satisfy their taste-buds. Also, the idea of “using every part of the animal” is pretty disgusting when you think about it. “Every part” means feet, intestines, balls, dicks, vaginas, and buttholes. Do you really want to be using those parts for food/clothing/shampoo?
4) I want you to do an experiment for me. Go to a doctor or a nutritionist and tell them you want to start eating healthier. Do you think they are going to tell you to stop eating so many fruits and vegetables, and start eating more meat? Highly unlikely. As for soy, you do know that soy and corn are the #1 food source for livestock animals, right? So the bad things in them are in what you eat. The rest of the foods you listed…how do you know what vegans eat? And also, where are you getting this information? meatisgoodforyouvegetablesarebadforyou.com? Not to mention the fact that anyone (vegan or not) that cares about their health knows what foods to eat in large quantities and which ones to limit.
So in summation, I am tired of meat eaters that hold a “better-than-thou” perspective over those were not lucky enough to be born human.
